To set up an educational system that offers world class qualitative standard and also one that is easily accessible to everyone and can be afforded - especially the deprived classes- is of vital importance. We have to admit that the after independence, importance of education has spread far and wide. Literacy rate at the time of independence was less than 10%,has now gone up to 88%. Engineering and medical streams have taken a big leap in terms of professional courses.. However, despite the statistics, even today almost 20% of the people are illiterate because they cannot afford education even at the primary level. This number is fairly equal to the population of USA that doesn't even know alphabets. The reason being most of. these people are from tribal and backward areas, where formal education is not treated as a necessity and women from these areas belong to folk categories. The society can never grow and be healthy if these classes are deprived and kept t away from education. Education is the medium of human empowerment and enhances the quality one’s life. Along with the government, society should also positively contribute towards the field of education in order to empower every individual. Education must therefore reach every door-step and must be turned into a national movement that affords everyone equally the opportunity to educate themselves, thereby allowing them to live a dignified life.
